TMB expands front door access on 90% of its buses

In a move aimed at improving efficiency and user comfort, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has announced that 90% of its buses now allow access through the two front doors.

This initiative, which recently came into effect, seeks to streamline the commercial speed of vehicles and facilitate passenger boarding.

Until now, this possibility was only available on 18-meter articulated buses with four doors.

However, the new regulations have been extended to 12-meter vehicles, both articulated and standard, which have a minimum of three front doors. This expansion covers approximately 90% of TMB’s fleet, which consists of more than 1,000 buses.

TMB: 90% of its buses will have access through the front doors

One of the main adaptations to implement this measure has been the relocation of the validators of T-mobilitat, the smart card system used in Barcelona’s public transport.

These devices are now located near both front doors to facilitate the validation of the ticket or transport card when boarding the bus.

The decision to allow access through the two front doors is aimed at improving the commercial speed of buses and avoiding congestion at bus stops. By expanding access options, the aim is to streamline passenger boarding and ensure a smoother flow of traffic inside the vehicle.

Although this measure has recently been implemented in most of the TMB fleet, it should be noted that buses with only two front doors, where only the front door is for entry and the rear door for exit, are excluded.

All for a better and pleasant travel experience

To improve passenger flow, T-mobilitat validators are now near both doors on TMB buses. This measure aims to speed up boarding, improve traffic flow and avoid confusion at stops.

The initiative to allow access through the two front doors is part of an ongoing effort by TMB to improve the travel experience for users and promote the use of public transport in the city of Barcelona.

Since its initial introduction in 2019 on higher capacity buses, this measure has proven effective in optimizing service and has now been expanded to benefit a significant portion of the company’s fleet.

TMB’s decision to allow access through the two front doors on most of its buses represents a step forward in improving the efficiency and comfort of public transport in Barcelona, demonstrating its commitment to innovation, comfort and quality of service offered to citizens using the system.
