For Christmas, the Hotel Juan Carlos I in Barcelona will be a Gran Meliá brand.

The city of Barcelona is preparing to welcome a jewel of luxury and hospitality that has remained closed since the beginning of the pandemic. It is the former Hotel Juan Carlos I, an emblematic establishment that will soon reopen its doors under the name of Gran Meliá Miranda de Pedralbes.

This opening will involve an investment of 40 million euros, financed by the Tyrus Capital fund, which has assumed ownership of this real estate asset and has led the remodeling work necessary for its reopening, scheduled for January 2024.

The Hotel Juan Carlos I, designed by the renowned architect Carles Ferrater, was inaugurated on the occasion of the Olympic Games and was owned by a branch of the Saudi royal family.

Tyrus Capital, as the largest creditor with a debt of 90 million, took over the restructuring of the financial liabilities, allowing the hotel to overcome the insolvency proceedings and reopen its doors with a new splendor.

Reopening of the Juan Carlos I Luxury Hotel in Barcelona: now Gran Meliá Miranda de Pedralbes

The Meliá Group, one of the most prestigious hotel chains in the world, will be the operator of this unique and exclusive complex.

Meliá, with a long tradition in the hospitality sector, has taken the decision to change the name of the hotel and will offer an unprecedented luxury experience under the Gran Meliá Miranda de Pedralbes brand.

One of the main novelties of this project to reopen the hotel is the reduction in the number of rooms, from 432 to 391, to give rise to a total of 65 suites.

Among them, the Penthouse Suite Red Level, located on the 14th, 15th and 16th floors, will offer more than 200 square meters of luxury and comfort. It will be available at a base price of 2,000 euros per night.

In addition, there will be 108 rooms that will be part of the exclusive RedLevel Lounge, a VIP area with exclusive services for guests.

A commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility is also part of the Gran Meliá Miranda de Pedralbes plan.

The complex will have 30 rooms specially designed for long-stay guests, which responds to a growing demand for this type of accommodations that seek comfort and convenience for extended stays.

The diversity of accommodation options at the Gran Meliá Miranda de Pedralbes will allow us to offer a tailor-made experience for each guest, ensuring that they find the perfect room for their needs and preferences.

Events and congresses

Along with the opening of the hotel, the Meliá Group will also take over the management of the Palacio de Congresos de Catalunya, which is part of the same hotel complex.

This space will be ready to receive events and meetings starting next October, enriching the services offered.
