Barcelona-based startup “Cuideo” expert in elderly care

Barcelona-based startup

The Barcelona startup “Cuideo” was born in Barcelona and it was in the city where they promoted their project through the Barcelona Activa incubator.

The incubator offered them many services and was the best springboard to start the business, which, beyond being a business, is a service initiative specialized in the attention and care of older adults.

The company proposed efficient care models as a real alternative to the classic nursing home model, which has been highly questioned in recent years, especially during the pandemic period.

The project proposes to select an ideal caregiver for each family, according to the needs of each dependent person.

Barcelona startup “Cuideo” and the market situation

Its founders point out that the direct competition in elder care is surprisingly the black market, illegal work.

And in the Spanish environment, the country has a record of 1,600,000 million dependent people, 87% of whom prefer to age at home.

Responding to this request, the idea of Cuideo was born in 2016, with the aim of bringing technology closer to a neglected, stagnant, and turned off sector.

Technology, older adults and their families

The founders state that they saw the use of technology as an opportunity for the elderly to have a better day-to-day life.

Using and applying it was the best way to offer an optimal home care service.

The objective is that the elderly dependent person can be better cared for at home.

In this sense, faced with the market, they saw the option of offering a superior quality service and creating a brand that has now become a benchmark in the country.

They indicate that betting on the brand was the key to the growth of “Cuideo”.

In addition, the use of digitalization makes it possible to offer the service nationwide and to activate an intensive selection process to find the best caregiver at each location.

This is achieved through algorithms and artificial intelligence, which makes the “perfect match” between the caregivers and the elderly.

How is the process at the Barcelona startup “Cuideo”?

Recruitment is easy. All that is required is that the adult’s family contact the call center and request the service.

From there, each case is assessed and there are even social workers who assess the adult to understand his or her situation and needs.

From this point on, the process of finding the most suitable caregiver for the situation and the person begins.

They currently have 800 caregivers on staff and have generated employment for more than 8,000 caregivers indirectly.
