The revolutionary NightJet and its overnight trips will connect Barcelona with Europe

In an important step towards the future of sustainable transport, Barcelona is preparing to welcome the NightJet, the innovative night train that will connect the Catalan capital with 13 European cities from December 2024.

This service, announced by ÖBB, will mark a milestone in overnight rail travel, offering passengers a comfortable and environmentally friendly way to explore Europe while they sleep.

From December 2024, the inhabitants of Barcelona will be able to embark on a unique night-time travel experience thanks to the NightJet.

This train, which already connects cities such as Basel, Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Florence, Hamburg and Milan, will add Barcelona as its next destination.

In a first phase, the NightJet will connect Barcelona with Zurich, providing travelers with the opportunity to make additional connections to destinations such as Rome or Amsterdam.

This project reflects the commitment to offer sustainable and comfortable transportation options, marking a new era in overnight rail travel in Europe.

NightJet landing in Barcelona

The NightJet, commissioned by ÖBB from Siemens, features a variety of amenities designed to meet the needs of passengers during their overnight journey.

The composition of the trains includes two cars with seats, ideal for those looking for more economical options.

In addition, it has three cars that house shared bunk cabins, with individual spaces that provide privacy to travelers. Two cars with private sleeper cabins are also incorporated for a more exclusive experience.

All cabins have built-in toilets, providing essential passenger amenities. With a capacity for 254 passengers, the NightJet reaches speeds of up to 230 kilometers per hour, ensuring fast and efficient travel.

Comfortable and accessible travel

NightJet ticket prices vary according to destination. Travelers can purchase them starting at 30 euros.

This affordability contributes to making the overnight train an accessible option for various types of travelers, providing the opportunity to explore multiple European destinations without sacrificing comfort and privacy.

The NightJet is not the only night train to join the European scene. The Midnight Trains company also plans to go into operation by the end of 2024, connecting cities such as Paris and Barcelona.

Both companies are responding to the growing demand for sustainable and efficient transportation options, opening up new possibilities for those who wish to explore Europe without wasting travel days.

This joint project, known as NightJet, is a collaboration between the railway companies of France (SNCF), Germany (DB), Austria (ÖBB) and Switzerland (CFF). The train has already been in operation on several lines since 2021 and the Barcelona-Zurich connection is expected to be activated in December 2024.

With speeds in excess of 200 kilometers per hour, these trains offer a unique way to travel, allowing passengers to enjoy the comfort of the railroad while they sleep.
