Redevelopment of Enamorats Street in Barcelona: Renovation and Improvement of Urban Space

In the heart of Barcelona’s iconic Eixample district, Enamorats Street is preparing for a significant transformation that seeks to revitalize this vital stretch of the city.

Covering an area of 5,887.32 square meters, the section extending from the intersections with Lepanto and Castillejos streets is ready for a redevelopment process that promises to improve the pedestrian experience, mobility and the urban environment as a whole.

The passage of time has left its mark on this street, deteriorating its condition and functionality. The proposed redevelopment aims not only to correct these problems, but also to raise the quality of life for residents and passersby who frequent this corner of Barcelona.

One of the main focuses of the project is to improve conditions for pedestrians. Accessibility is a key point, with the intention of making the street easily accessible to everyone. In addition, sidewalks will be widened, creating wider and more comfortable spaces for pedestrians and favoring social interaction in urban environments. The plan is to create an environment that encourages pedestrian activity.

The municipal government of Barcelona will carry out the pacification of this artery, which will extend from the intersections with Lepanto and Castillejos streets. In this area, a unified platform will be implemented that will restrict the passage of private vehicles, with the exception of residents and services that will have access to a single lane, according to the executive plan.

Along with the reduction of vehicular traffic, the lighting of the road will be modified, the health of the trees will be evaluated for possible selective removal to make room for new plantings, and a promenade will be designed with landscaped areas, furniture and playgrounds that will give a more recreational character to the southern side of the street.

Vehicular traffic is also in the spotlight.

The idea is to reduce the presence of cars, transforming the street into a more friendly space for pedestrians and cyclists. This will be achieved by restricting road traffic to a one-way lane and prioritizing service and resident vehicles. Emergency accessibility and access to private garages will not be compromised, ensuring smooth and safe operation in all situations.

Street furniture and lighting

Street furniture and lighting will play an essential role in the revitalization of the street. The incorporation of modern and efficient elements will contribute to the overall attractiveness and functionality of the environment. In addition, special attention will be paid to the existing trees and an evaluation of their phytosanitary condition will be carried out. If necessary, new plant species will be planted, providing diversity and highlighting the importance of nature in the urban fabric.

An interesting aspect of the proposal is its link with other urban spaces. The visual and perceptual connection with the Plaza de los Enamorados and the future redevelopment of the square next to Diagonal offers a sense of continuity and unity in the urban fabric. This not only improves the aesthetic coherence, but also the functionality of public spaces.
