Forecast of the first heat wave of the summer: highs of 45 degrees according to AEMET

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has announced the arrival of the first heat wave of the summer in Spain for today, with maximum temperatures that could reach 45 degrees.

After days of rain and unstable conditions, an anticyclone is expected to generate a very warm atmosphere in large areas of the country starting Thursday.

This increase in intense and long-lasting temperatures could qualify as a heat wave. If confirmed, temperatures would be 5 to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year.

After a period of scattered rains and storms in different regions of Spain, the AEMET has announced that the first heat wave of the summer is expected to arrive.

According to agency spokesman Ruben Del Campo, intense heat will set in starting Thursday and persist through the weekend and early next week.

First heat wave of the summer in the Mediterranean Sea

The Guadalquivir valley will be one of the most affected areas, where it is expected to exceed 35 degrees on Thursday and reach tropical nights on the peninsular Mediterranean coast, the Balearic Islands and the lower and middle Guadalquivir.

By Friday, temperatures are forecast to continue to rise, reaching above 35 degrees in the southwest quadrant and possibly reaching 40 degrees in the Guadalquivir valley.

In addition, tropical nights are forecast in these areas and temperatures of up to 45 degrees in the valleys of the Tajo, Guadiana and Guadalquivir.

These extreme heat conditions could be sustained for at least three consecutive days, thus qualifying as a heat wave.

If this happens, temperatures would be between 5 and 10 degrees above normal for this time of the year in the west and center of the peninsula, as well as in areas of the Mediterranean.

It is important to take into account the precautionary measures for this period.

Tips to face the heat

The competent authorities and agencies recommend following certain guidelines to protect health and avoid problems resulting from excessive heat. Some of these recommendations include:
