Farewell to the telephone cables on the facades of Barceloneta

By letter to the main telephone companies, the City Council asked them to dismantle the telephone cables on the facades of Barceloneta.

The objective is to fix the messy cables that can be seen on the facades of the buildings.

According to the District Inspection Service, 66 areas in Barceloneta were identified as having this type of cable.

The letter requests those responsible for the wiring to fix the networks within one month. They should also change the route and remove the cables that are already out of service.

According to the City Council, the streets can no longer have so much visual impact that it is in breach of the regulation. Companies have not done proper maintenance for years.

The inspection plan to fix the facades of Barceloneta

The 2020-2021 inspection plan in Barcelona established the need to progressively reorder and eliminate cabling. In this way, the aim was to guarantee the quality of the Urban Landscape.

Implementation of the plan was delayed due to the pandemic crisis. Therefore, it is expected to become a reality as soon as possible in compliance with the law.

In the event of non-compliance with the request, the companies may be subject to an urban planning disciplinary proceeding.

The deadline is already defined and the best will of the parties is expected. All with the purpose of carrying out the respective actions.

The objective is to reduce visual pollution and comply with the standard.
