The Tosquella House in the Putxet is recovered

After remaining unoccupied since 2012, the Barcelona City Council will assume the rehabilitation of the Tosquella House in the Putxet, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district.

The objective is to rehabilitate the building for public use as a facility for the elderly.

The House is a modernist building considered a Historic Monument and Cultural Asset of National Interest.

In addition to fulfilling the function of equipment, it also seeks to protect the heritage value of the house, since the garden and the building as such are deteriorated.

La Casa Tosquella in the Putxet: a very classic and singular style.

Casa Tosquella was built in 1889 by the merchant Antoni Tosquella as a summer house.

It was later renovated between 1907 and 1908 by the architect Eduard M. Balcells, a modernist who gave it Arabic touches and a unique style at the time.

The house was recently added to the “Red Heritage List” in order to prevent further deterioration and to ensure its recovery.

The City Council will also seek to fix the gardens of the estate so that citizens can visit them and thereby recover more green space in the city.

The restoration will help open up space for pedestrians and meet the needs of roadway calming.

The works to be carried out at La Casa Tosquella in El Putxet will involve an investment of 1.4 million euros.

The realization of the works and their functionality, involves such an investment and, incidentally, a planned recovery of the surrounding area.

Improving safety will be another major achievement of the restoration.
