The Gran Teatre del Liceu celebrated its 175th anniversary with balloons

With more than 800 colorful balloons in a momentary work of art, the Gran Teatre del Liceu celebrated its 175 years of existence. The author of the performance was Brazilian artist Flávia Junqueira.

The work succeeded in transporting theater visitors back to childhood, through imaginary and illusory scenes, combining reality and fantasy. The celebration was held on October 11 and throughout the day, about 70 people, chosen by contest, entered the theater to see the play.

The joyful display ended after several hours, when the helium balloons began to deflate.

Liceu celebrated its 175th anniversary with balloons

Flávia Junqueira transformed the Liceu with 800 balloons. It was his first show in Europe, a song to childhood and the ephemeral that gave a magical touch to the Gran Teatre. And this was a wonderful birthday party scenario.

The entire Liceu was filled with bombs: the stage, the stalls, the boxes and the upper floors were filled with colorful balloons of all colors and sizes.

It is worth mentioning that the artist’s leap was great, as she went from exhibiting photographs of her works to exhibiting in art galleries. It was also his first participation in a theater in Europe and some lucky ones were able to see his work in such a wonderful setting as the Liceu.

The birthday balloon day was appreciated in the morning hours by some sponsors of the Gran Teatre. In the afternoon, a group of visitors who won their tickets by lottery attended the event.

The whole day was accompanied by a harp recital by Esther Pinyol of the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu performing impressionist music.

About Flávia Junqueira

The artist emphasizes that her art is based on the world of magic, fantasy and memory.

He states that “childhood is a time that fades, as well as the dreams that are repressed in adult life. The balloons, light, fragile and ephemeral, contrast with the historical architecture of the Liceu, a space built to last”.

She has been recognized for her aerial art, which she has exhibited in a dozen theaters in Brazil, but her goal is to make her presence felt in many more historic theaters around the world.

His first intervention was at the San Pedro Theater in Porto Alegre, Brazil, followed by a dozen spaces transformed by Junqueira in his country.

She hopes that the Gran Teatre del Liceu will be the first of many creative experiences in Europe.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the colorful balloons added a touch of unreality to the room. And that finally, at the end of the balloon exhibition, the balloons were recycled by an American company with which the artist works.
