T-Mobilitat presents the new Pink Card: What should you know?

The Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) of Barcelona has recently announced an internal pilot test to implement new social transport tickets and among them, the T-metropolitana Pink Card.

This new addition to Barcelona’s transport system promises to simplify and improve the user experience. If you are a resident or frequent visitor to Barcelona, this information is crucial to be aware of changes in transport tickets.

Change in transport tickets

As of November 6, 2023, the Barcelona MTA has started an internal pilot test for the implementation of new social transport tickets. These tickets represent a significant change in the way users access and use Barcelona’s public transport system. One of the most notable new features is the introduction of the T-metropolitan Pink Card.

La Rosa comes in two variants: free and reduced. The free Pink Card will replace the current free Metropolitan Pink Card G magnetic ticket. On the other hand, the reduced Pink Card will replace the metropolitan Pink Card R Reduced Fare.

If you were already a user of the previous versions, please note that the new cards are practically identical to the traditional magnetic cards, with one important difference.

What is the Metropolitan Pink Card?

The Pink Card is a personalized and non-transferable document that allows travel on the metro network, regular TMB bus lines, metropolitan fare FGC lines, other AMB bus lines (except the Aerobus) and the Tram. It is also valid for Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 metro stations on line L9 Sud.

The Pink Card is offered in two modalities: free of charge and at a reduced rate. The free Pink Card requires a single annual payment for management fees and mandatory traveler’s insurance.

To use it correctly, you must validate it every time you use public transport and carry it with you along with your ID card or equivalent documentation to prove that you are the holder. On the other hand, the Tarjeta Rosa reduced fare card grants the right to use the T-4 and must be validated together with the ID card or documentation proving your identity.

Requirements to obtain the Pink Card

The Pink Card can be applied for by people with a recognized disability equal to or greater than 33% or by people over 60 years of age (the age varies according to the municipality) who are registered in one of the municipalities of the Barcelona metropolitan area.

All the information on the different types of Pink Card and how to apply for it is available on the website of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area.

In case of loss

In case of loss of the Pink Card, it is important to report it to your city hall or to the district council if you live in Barcelona. This will allow you to take the necessary steps to obtain a new card.
