NN Wallery project: urban art and real estate development for Barcelona

Creativity, urban art and real estate promotion, is the integration sought by the NN Wallery Project to dignify spaces in Barcelona through mural and graffiti.

The project proposes the realization of urban art exhibitions, either ephemeral or permanent, in the buildings of the Catalan capital.

It is something like a symbiosis between real estate developments and urban art.

It may be perceived at first hand that the construction of a building is accompanied by graffiti or a mural, they are not compatible, they may be.

It can be interpreted as a private initiative project that seeks to dignify the city and provide artistic value.

The aim is to give a positive vision to the initiative, since in Barcelona it is common to see vandalism and laxity on the part of the municipal government when it comes to protecting heritage.

NN Wallery project: artistic works with added value

The initiative invites reflection: what can dignify the city more.

Perhaps a wall, a fence, a store shutter or a dirty, vandalized and degraded parking lot door. Or perhaps these same elements but enhanced with artistic works that add value to the city and encourage the space to be kept clean.

In short, this is the NN Wallery Project: urban art promoted by the Barcelona real estate developer and construction company Núñez i Navarro.

It also has the coordination of the advertising agency Chârles Barcelona and the collaboration of Norma Còmics and the design gallery Il-lacions.

This great team has been bringing art and color to the streets of the city for years.

Ephemeral and permanent works

The project is two-fold:

  1. The first is to improve the environments of buildings under construction through the implementation of ephemeral works on the perimeter walls that are temporarily erected to protect pedestrians.
  2. The second is to promote permanent interventions in those spaces such as commercial establishment shutters, parking lot doors, among many others.

The two aspects have a common denominator and that is the use of a color palette inspired by the corporate image of the real estate company (mainly yellows and greens), and that they are works inspired by the city of Barcelona.

The real estate company states that its objective is “to improve the space, especially in those where they make developments with an average duration of two to three years”.

Upon completion of the work, the wall where the artwork was made will be demolished.

Since the project started in 2018 and despite the pandemic break, 12 temporary and around 28 permanent works have already been carried out in almost all districts of the city.

Muralists, illustrators, artists and graffiti artists have participated in them.
