Historic Barça bus found at Camp Nou construction site

Renovation work at Camp Nou, the emblematic home of Barcelona Football Club, has unearthed a historical relic that has left fans speechless: a historic Barça bus.

The vehicle was part of the Cinco Copas bus fleet between 1950 and 1953. This bus, which witnessed one of the club’s golden eras, was on display in the old stadium and has been discovered abandoned during the renovation works.

Historic Barça bus reappears during Camp Nou construction work

The photograph of the abandoned bus has generated outrage among the team’s supporters, who believe that this piece of the club’s history should be preserved and exhibited in the Barça museum.

During the years the bus was in service, the team led by Ferdinand Daucik won as many titles as possible, growing from 26,300 members to 52,791 in a decade.

This bus was one of those that were part of the fleet of buses used during the Five Cups between 1950 and 1953, a period catalogued as one of Barça’s golden ages. During these years, FCB won the League, the Cup, the Latin Cup, the Eva Duarte Cup and the Martini Rossi Cup.

How are the works at Camp Nou progressing?

Meanwhile, the Camp Nou renovation work is progressing at a good pace with the goal of completion by the 2026-2027 season. Currently, more than 400 professionals are working on the construction of the new stadium, which will become the largest in Europe, with a capacity of 104,000 spectators.

The design of the future Camp Nou has won international awards, highlighting its 50,000 square meter tensile roof, which will be the largest in the world.

The project also includes the construction of more than 3,500 outdoor parking spaces, leisure areas and a new Palau Blaugrana.

Despite the challenges and criticisms raised by the discovery of the abandoned bus, the future of Camp Nou promises to be an architectural and sporting landmark that will continue to write the history of FC Barcelona for years to come.

Although the ambitious Camp Nou renovation project is progressing well, it is unlikely that the stadium will be open for play this November, as promised.

The refurbishment process, which focuses mainly on subway work, is scheduled to be completed in two years, with construction of the third tier, which is expected to begin in 2025, yet to begin.

This means that, if an attempt were made to play earlier, the stadium would be incomplete, with reduced seating capacity and important parts, such as the presidential box, not covered.

Therefore, the stadium would not be suitable for a special event to celebrate the club’s anniversary.
