Guardia Urbana and Mossos reinforce street surveillance this Christmas

During the New Year’s Eve celebrations, Barcelona will have more police presence and surveillance in the streets by patrols of the Guardia Urbana and Mossos. Particularly in the streets of the commercial and tourist areas of the city.

The feeling of insecurity in the city and the cases reported prompted the authorities to set up a special Christmas program in order to guarantee peaceful celebrations.

All this considering that during these dates the number of people on the street, walking, sightseeing or moving around the city increases considerably.

The Barcelona City Council announced the device so that the festivities can pass in the midst of civility and coexistence, as they will be the first celebrations without health restrictions since 2019.

Police reinforces surveillance in the streets of Barcelona

The Christmas season will have the reinforcement of 365 agents of the Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona that will be present in public spaces, commercial and tourist areas where it is common the agglomeration in these dates.

The objective is to prevent the occurrence of crime and improve street safety. In this way, uniformed and plainclothes foot patrols will be increased in coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra. Team work will be carried out according to the needs of each operation.

For their part, the patrols will carry out public safety prevention tasks. It will carry out controls, surveillance of public space and adequate control to guarantee the rest of the neighbors.

Neighborhood Police officers will establish contacts with commercial and neighborhood representatives in order to prioritize conflictive areas during patrolling.

Other measures

Likewise, they will inspect premises to avoid excessive noise and capacity, and to prevent alcohol consumption by minors.

They will monitor compliance with the closing hours of bars and terraces and sanction those who participate in illegal parties both in buildings or in the street.

In order to monitor these events, the agents will permanently monitor the social networks.

There will also be more control of road safety violations.

Preventive alcohol and drug controls will be carried out, due to the increase in accidents due to the increase in Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations and dinners.

For its part, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, TMB, will reinforce the public transport service to avoid congestion and the use of private vehicles.

As for the subway service, during Saturday, December 24, Christmas Eve, the subway service will end at 11 p.m.

For Christmas Day, the subway will operate from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. It will run through Sant Esteve until 12 midnight.

On New Year’s Eve, the metro will offer uninterrupted service.
