From September 17 new radars will be operating in Barcelona

Vacations are over and classes and traditional work days are back. And with this, 17 new radars will come into operation in Barcelona from September onwards.

At the beginning of the year, the City Council announced the implementation of the project, with the aim of reducing road accidents and improving safety in the most congested areas of the city.

Initially, 12 speed controllers will be released, most of them located in school zones. The other five will be in different crucial points of the city. At these points the accident rate is very high.

Please note that in September the radars will start operating without penalties. They will only be pedagogical, where a display will indicate the speed at which you are circulating, if you are below or above the permitted speed. in this regard, dFor the next three months, violation notices will be obtained but without a fine.

The sanctions process is expected to last until the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023, following an announcement by the city council.

New radars in Barcelona reinforce existing ones

Since May of this year, they began to operate four speed cameras that have already passed the pedagogical and informative phase. This means that for these four radars, as of September the penalties for violators will begin, leaving behind the educational period for drivers.

These controls are operating in the sections of:

  1. Rovira Tunnel: at the point between Plaza de Alfons el Savi and Rambla del Carmel in both directions.
  2. Badal Tunnel: located between Plaça de Cerdà and Avinguda Diagonal in both directions.
  3. Ronda del Litoral: in the section of the three tunnels of Colom, Moll de la Fusta and Pla de Palau, in both directions.
  4. Glòries Tunnel in both directions.

The statistics of road accidents in Barcelona during 2022 are dramatic. The most recent accident claimed the lives of two motorcyclists who join the 18 fatalities in the Catalan capital. Of these fatalities, 16 were on motorcycles.

For this reason, the five new speed cameras that start operating at key points in the city are:

  1. In Aragó Street (right between Urgell and Casanova streets).
  2. On Diagonal Avenue (at Numància street, direction Besòs).
  3. On Avenida Diagonal (at the height of Plaza de Pius XII, direction Llobregat).
  4. In Paseo de la Bonanova (at the height of Anglí street, direction Llobregat).
  5. And on Gran Vía de Les Corts Catalanes (at the height of Sant Roc street).
