Fira de Barcelona modernizes and renews itself

Modernization and expansion of its facilities is what awaits Fira de Barcelona in the coming years.

The Montjuïc site will be completely renovated and the Gran Via site will have a new building. Thanks to this expansion, it will increase its total capacity to 300,000 square meters.

The entire process of expanding and modernizing the infrastructure of the fairgrounds is expected to be completed in 2029. Just in time for the centenary of the Barcelona International Exposition.

The objective is to consolidate Fira’s position in the congress and trade fair sector in the midst of a competitive and high-demand environment.

Gran Via Building

The site was built in different phases between 1995 and 2011. It was the work of Japanese architect Toyō Itō.

The building contemplates an expansion through the construction of a new 60,000 m2 two-story building.

Specifically, this expansion, which is expected to be completed in 2024, will make the facility one of the most important facilities in the world.

It will be distinguished by the area allocated to exhibition space, the technology incorporated into its facilities, its functionality, innovation, quality and sustainability.

Fira de Barcelona, Montjuïc venue

The Universo Montjuïc project seeks to modernize the exhibition space that was initially built to host the 1929 International Exposition.

It will create exhibition spaces adaptable to different types of events and areas for co-working and entrepreneurship.

The Alfonso XIII palace will be transformed into a conference center, including an auditorium.
