Fava de Cacau Awards for the best pastry shops in Catalonia

The Mostra Internacional de Pastisseria de Sant Vicenç dels Horts announced the 50 best pastry shops in Catalonia awarded with the Fava de Cacau Awards.

In this edition, the winners were:

  • The most innovative pastry shop: Pastisseria Escribà in Barcelona.
  • Pastry shop of more historical value: Confiteria Padreny de Tarragona.
  • Pastry shop of the most singular sweet: the Cigne de Barcelona.

The Fava de Cacau Awards, Sant Vicenç dels Horts, were awarded by a jury coordinated by the specialist Marc Balaguer and a group of expert professionals with wide recognition and prestige in the sector.

This pastry award is considered one of the best in the world and this year was integrated into the 39th Mostra Comercial, Agrícola i Gastronòmica.

The best pastry shops in Catalonia

La Pastisseria Escribà of Barcelona

It received the award for the most innovative because in its 116 years of history, it has been characterized by making pastry a different art without leaving aside the sweet traditions very typical of the Catalan culture.

Confiteria Padreny in Reus

It was awarded as the pastry shop with “Most historical value”. And no wonder. It was founded in 1815 and is currently in its sixth generation of management. It is widely recognized for the artisanal and traditional elaboration of salty and sweet and savory products, as well as for the constant innovation without losing tradition.

La Pastisseria El Cigne (Manresa)

The most unique sweet received the award thanks to its product “Les ametlles de la llum”, a creation that was reinvented by the city’s master confectioners in order to adapt it to the tastes of 21st century palates.

The bakeries are also recognized in the counties

The award of La Fava de Cacau of the Penedès region went to the Obrador del Vendrell. In the same way, from the regions of Central Catalonia, El Carme de Vic and in Barcelona, the Hoffman pastry shop were distinguished.

With respect to the regions of Girona, the prize went to Tornés de Girona. For its part, the pastry Cal Jan de Torredembarra received the award for pastry of the Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre.

In the same way, in the Ponent region, the Tugues pastry shop in Lleida was awarded the Fava de Cacau. The Gil de Lívia pastry shop was awarded as the best in the Pyrenees.

The best pastry shops and schools in Catalonia

The Mostra Internacional de Pastisseria 2023 edition, held the first call for the competition of pastry schools in Catalonia. On this occasion, Institut Dertosa (Tortosa) was the first school classified, followed by ESHOB from Barcelona and Institut Martí Dot (Sant Feliu de Llobregat).
