Barcelona inaugurates a Family Nurturing Space in La Barceloneta

In a continuing effort to provide essential resources for families with young children, the Barcelona City Council has announced the opening of a new Family Parenting Space in the neighborhood of La Barceloneta.

This space, located at 25-31 Andrea Doria Street, is presented as a welcoming place that seeks to provide comprehensive support to families with children from 0 to 3 years old.

With 88 square meters of carefully designed facilities, this space offers an environment conducive to play, learning and social interaction.

The La Barceloneta Family Nurturing Space is composed of several areas designed to meet the specific needs of children and their families. The facilities available include a multipurpose room, a reception and reception area, as well as a fully equipped kitchen.

In addition, it shares a 126 square meter space with the children’s house, offering a variety of opportunities for development and fun.

Professional support staff

In order to provide an educational and supportive environment, the space will be staffed by trained professionals, including a social educator and an early childhood education teacher. These professionals will be available to accompany families during their visit to the space.

Pre-registration for access to the site will take place directly on site, facilitating the process for those who wish to participate.

Municipal Foster Care Family Space, EFCM, for comprehensive support

These municipal family childcare spaces are conceived as meeting and play areas where children, accompanied by an adult, can explore, socialize and learn. The initiative seeks to create communities around the parenting process, offering families valuable professional support.

With the opening of this new space in La Barceloneta, the city of Barcelona will have a total of 27 such spaces, reinforcing its commitment to the well-being of families and child development.

The city of Barcelona will continue to expand its network of Municipal Foster Family Spaces (EFCM) during the 2023-2024 school year. This public service is offered in various types of public facilities, providing support, care and accompaniment to families with children up to 3 years of age.

The EFCM is an educational service designed specifically for families with young children, providing professional accompaniment in a space for families and children to meet.

Its main objective is to support parenting, foster bonds and create communities in educational environments within diverse and nearby public facilities.

Main objectives of the EFCM:

  • Accompaniment and professional support: provide guidance and professional assistance during the parenting stage.
  • Play and socialization: encourage play and socialization among children.
  • Support and exchange between families: facilitate mutual support and exchange of experiences between families.
  • Family bonding: strengthening family ties through shared experiences.
