Anti-crisis measures prohibiting rent increases extended

Through the extension of anti-crisis measures until December 31, 2022 and despite the increase in the CPI, the central government maintains the prohibition to increase rents by more than 2%.

The extension of this measure implies a relief for tenants.

In this order of ideas, if you are one of those who must renew your lease contract now or until the end of the year, you will benefit.

Initially, the measure was to end on June 30, 2022. However, as the situation that motivated it has not yet changed (the crisis due to the war in Ukraine), it makes it stick.

The 2% corresponds to the Competitiveness Guarantee Index, IGC, a figure that takes into account inflation and competitiveness rather than the CPI.

The GCR can only apply between 0 and 2%, so the landlord and tenant can agree on a rent increase below this 2% or renew the lease on the same terms.

For example, with the application of the GCR for a rent of €1,000/month, the increase would be €20/month. But if it were to be made with the CPI, the increase of the same fee would be 102 €/month.

Rent increases are prohibited
