With proximity store model, IKEA opens two new stores in BCN

Using the proximity store format, IKEA will open two new stores in the center of Barcelona, bringing the Swedish furniture chain closer to its shoppers.

The Swedish interior design giant seeks to bring the brand closer to the city, as its huge stores are located on the outskirts.

With this change, you will save the trip as the new stores will open under the concept of proximity stores and Barcelona is the city chosen as the testing ground.

One will be located in Diagonal 532 and the other in the Glòries shopping center. Each of the two premises has about 2000 square meters.

In these stores, customers will be able to shop online or, if they prefer, purchase the products on display directly.

Another novelty is that the Diagonal location will have a restaurant area that has been called “Swedish Bite”, which will occupy 51 m2 of the store, as well as a terrace on the same Diagonal Avenue.

Likewise, in this store the commercial activity will be distributed on two floors where more than 2,500 products will be displayed, of which 1,000 will be for direct sale.

In both stores customers will have the “click & collect” service, with which if you make a purchase online you can pick it up 24 hours later in this section of the store.

Additionally, Ikea reconfirmed that the Catalan capital will serve as a testing ground for innovative formats that seek to create a temporary format aimed at assisting companies.

With this innovation, companies will be able to design interior design projects for their own stores and businesses with the help of professionals from the “Ikea Business” area. They seek to accompany the client and advise him in his new projects.

To make the urban stores a reality in the city, the company made an investment of 10 million euros and intends to generate 100 new direct jobs.

Expansion of the furniture giant

The new stores, which will open in the summer, are part of IKEA’s expansion strategy, particularly in the Catalan market, along with Andalusia and Madrid, where there is evidence of a major growth focus.

In this way, IKEA aims to increase its workforce in Catalonia by more than 18% in the next two years, thanks to the opening of up to 12 new points of contact with the customer.

The two new stores to be opened in Barcelona will join the Swedish company’s traditional stores in Catalonia, located in Badalona, L’Hospitalet and Sabadell.

They also have five planning areas, eight goods delivery points, as well as the Valls distribution center in Tarragona.
