At the beginning of 2023, Silence, a subsidiary of Acciona, will start manufacturing cars at its ground floor in Barcelona’s Zona Franca.
Carlos Sotelo, CEO and founder of Silence, confirmed that they have already been working in the facilities doing tests and assemblies, so that at the beginning of next year they will be able to start the production line of their electric cars.
In the middle of the year, the company received the authorization to start its activities within the Free Trade Zone premises.
In total, Silence occupies an area of 61,078 m2 of the industrial complex that was left by Nissan, the Japanese car manufacturer. In this way, the motorcycle manufacturer Silence started the reindustrialization of the city’s Free Trade Zone.
The brand is already manufacturing rechargeable motorcycles at the Sant Boi de Llobregat plant.
Car manufacturing in the Zona Franca of Barcelona
From the outset, Silence’s goal has been to use the facilities in the Catalan capital to manufacture a small battery-electric vehicle on a large scale.
Silence began work with the goal of creating an electric vehicle that would break infrastructure and price barriers.
And while Silence received in July 2022 the authorization to work in the Free Trade Zone, Nissan also received in parallel the authorization to continue its activity in its Technical Center.
The reindustrialization of the Zona Franca of Barcelona
The start of Silence’s work is considered by the Barcelona authorities as a definitive step to initiate the reindustrialization of the Free Trade Zone.
We have worked together to ensure that the process moves forward as quickly as possible and with the legal guarantees to comply with the agreements reached.
Silence said it was very pleased to be the first company to contribute to the reindustrialization of the Zone and the creation of jobs.
This will transform the automotive sector into a zero-emission model with various highly innovative proposals.
The best thing is that Silence started working in the Zona Franca with its sustainable mobility project through small electric cars.
In addition, it is a source of employment that will secure jobs.
