Metro L9 to be ready by 2028

With an investment of €6 billion, metro line L9 is expected to be up and running in 2028. For this reason, the works have been resumed this June 2022, starting in the Manuel Girona promenade, after being stopped for 10 years.

The goal is to start operations in 2028, with all work to be completed by 2027. This includes the construction of both the stations and the line itself.

The work, which resumes this month, includes the drilling of some four kilometers of track between the future Campus Nord and Lesseps stations.

The Generalitat expects the tunnel boring machine to reach Mandri (another of the stops expected to be ready in summer 2023) and Lesseps by the end of 2024.

Once this work is completed, the Government foresees a maximum of three years (until 2027) to build the 11 pending stations. Also that of the intermediate slab between Maragall and Campus Nord.

It is estimated that the l9 will increase from 23 million passengers per year to 113 million.

Finally, among other benefits for the city, L9 will link El Prat airport with Santa Coloma de Gramenet and will have a total length of 48 kilometers.
