The Government increased the Bono Social Térmico by 50% for the year 2021, with an addition of 8.7 million of its own resources to the 17.5 million euros allocated by the State.
In this way, Catalonia complements the Bono Social Térmico seeking that more than 100,000 vulnerable households can receive between 41 and 186 additional euros that will be added to the initial amount of aid.
The total budget for the Bono Social Térmico in Catalonia will be 26.2 million euros.
The households that will benefit most from the measure will be those in a situation of vulnerability or at risk of social exclusion (around 100,219) and depending on the level of vulnerability and the climate zone.
The bono social térmico is an annual subsidy granted to compensate the costs of energy supply for heating, cooking, etc.
It is also considered an aid for consumers in vulnerable situations, aimed at saving energy or being able to make energy efficiency improvements.

Basically, the decision to supplement the initial amount of the thermal social bonus set by the State with resources from the Generalitat is due to the fact that in recent months the increase in the price of gas, butane and diesel has been higher than the increase in this aid.
This situation, together with the increase in the prices of consumer goods, had a direct impact on the reduction of the purchasing power of vulnerable people.
In addition, it further increases the risk of energy poverty.
The increase in the amount comes at a time when, due to the winter period, the consumption of thermal energy in the domestic sphere is growing.
For its part, the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, in charge of managing this aid, had already expedited payments.
In this sense, those who have already benefited from the first payment will automatically receive the additional amount.
Bono social térmico 50%: how to receive the aid
Those who had already been beneficiaries and received the first payment will automatically receive the addition. Therefore, it is not necessary to submit an application.
However, for those beneficiaries who have not yet received any payment or those who doubt whether they are beneficiaries or not, they can check this link.
It is reminded that the payment of the aid is made through the beneficiary’s bank account, which can be changed during the payment period.
The beneficiaries also have the option to renounce the aid through a form that can be filled out electronically or submitted to any registry office addressed to the General Directorate of Energy.
The initial amount of the Bono Social Térmico ranged from 82 to 373 euros per beneficiary, depending on the level of vulnerability.
