From spring 2023, Barcelona will have themed tourist trains

Under the slogan “El teu viatge comença a Barcelona” (“Your trip starts in Barcelona”), the Consorci de Turisme together with the Diputació de Barcelona, will promote the thematic tourist trains project as one of the strategies to boost tourism and reactivate the economy.

The proposal for next spring has three new features:

  1. The implementation of thematic tourist train routes in collaboration with Renfe.
  2. The promotion of bicycle tourism and the Vies Blaves as new paths for the regeneration of the territory, health and leisure.
  3. The recovery of the dry stone heritage.

The initiative has nothing to do with the strategy of “escapes from Barcelona” that Ferrocarrils Generalitat de Catalunya advances through its own transport network.

Themed tourist trains from Barcelona

Themed trains will depart from the Catalan capital. Its objective is to tour the province to showcase its main attractions in a similar way as the project already operates in Galicia and Aragon through Renfe.

The routes that will be offered will be of gastronomy, wine tourism, thermalism, modernism and seafaring culture.

The trains would start operating during the spring and fall season, after the six routes to be covered initially are well detailed.

The convoys will depart from Barcelona once a week and will have the capacity to transport one hundred passengers.

Depending on the theme of each tourist train, the access ticket will incorporate exclusive packages of experiences (depending on the theme), which seek to promote sustainable tourist mobility and proximity tourism.

The experience starts at the entrance to the thematic train and continues throughout the route according to preference.

A project visible at the last International Tourism Trade Fair

From January 18-22, 2023, the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) was held in Madrid, where Barcelona participated with its own stand of 200 square meters.

At the Fair, the Catalan capital was projected as a tourist destination capable of integrating Barcelona and its three tourism brands of the Diputació: Costa Barcelona, Pirineus Barcelona and Paisatges de Barcelona.

This extensive territory includes 12 counties and 311 towns, with a total of 100 kilometers of coastline, 12 parks and natural areas.

During the fair, different events were held, such as the presentation of the collaboration between the Diputació de Barcelona and Renfe to launch thematic tourist trains through the province.

In this way, travelers will be able to get to know the main attractions of these areas.

The Diputació itself and the directors of Renfe, bet all their efforts to this initiative along with the entire team and the trains that will cover the established routes.
