Free guided tours of the works nominated for the EUmies Awards 2024

Barcelona, known for its rich architectural heritage that includes such wonders as the Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera, is preparing to offer a unique experience for architecture lovers. The initiative “Out & About. Discovering Architecture Eumies Awards 2024”, is running from April to June in more than 30 European cities, including Barcelona.

This exciting opportunity allows the public to explore up close the works selected by the jury of the prestigious EUmies Awards, named after the renowned modernist architect Mies van der Rohe.

One of the highlights is the Gabriel García Márquez Public Library in Sant Martí. This impressive building, winner of several international awards, will open its doors for a guided tour on May 15 at 10 am.

The architects responsible for the project, Elena Orte and Guillermo Sevillano, will host this tour, which will be available in Spanish and English. Registration is now open on the awards website, giving those interested the opportunity to secure their place in this unique experience.

Another fascinating destination is the 1737 social housing complex in Gavà, which is also part of the guided tour program. On May 14 at 10:15 a.m., architects Josep Ricart Ulldemolins and Josep Maria Borrell Bru will guide visitors through this innovative project.

For the convenience of Barcelona residents, a bus will be provided from the Mies van der Rohe pavilion in Barcelona to Gavà. This visit will be exclusively in English, and registration is available online.

The EUmies Awards 2024

The jury of the EUmies Awards 2024 carefully selected the works nominated for the award (among which 16 are Catalan), all built in the last two years in Europe, as exceptional representatives of contemporary architectural innovation.

In addition to guided tours, the program includes a variety of complementary activities, such as presentations, art exhibitions, gastronomy and music, designed to enrich visitors’ experience and deepen their understanding of avant-garde architecture.

On May 14, Barcelona will host the Eumies Awards Day, a special day that will include lectures by the authors of the winning and finalist works, as well as debates with architects and members of the jury. This event will also feature an exhibition showcasing the 362 works originally nominated, including the sixteen Catalan works.
