CSIO show jumping competition at the Real Club de Polo

From September 29 to October 2, the 110th edition of the CSIO show jumping competition will be held at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. This international sporting event is the oldest of its kind in Spain.

It is also the best place to bring together equestrian enthusiasts, whether sportsmen or amateurs, where the equestrian event in Barcelona takes place.

Undoubtedly, the international show jumping competition CSIO Barcelona is the most important and outstanding sporting event par excellence in the international equestrian calendar. In addition, this year is very special, since the competition coincides with the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the equestrian organization in the city.

Among the novelties of this 2022 edition is the new equestrian obstacle “The rose and the book”, a work by three students from the LCI Barcelona design school.

“The Rose and the Book” is a vertical jumping structure to be overcome by riders and horses.

Andrea Álvarez, Cecilia Barrios and Renata Garcés, were the student designers and winners of the contest “A jump for the city”, organized by the Barcelona Equestrian Challenge together with LCI Barcelona.

This is the ninth consecutive year that the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup World Grand Final has been held in Barcelona.

In fact, this celebration seeks to strengthen the link between the centenary sporting competition of the Real Club de Polo and the city of Barcelona. In fact, it is an excellent event that contributes to the international promotion of the Catalan capital.

Emilio Zegrí, president of the Foundation of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona, RCPB, indicates that from the Foundation it is possible to promote culture by supporting young talents in the world of design. In doing so, they also seek to put Barcelona in the international spotlight.

The new obstacle is closely linked to Catalan culture. The designers were inspired by the Diada de Sant Jordi, with which they wanted to represent “the strength that letters have to form words, texts and stories that seek to connect us”.

They were based on the poem Visca Sant Jordi! by Lola Casas, as well as the works of sculptor Jaume Plensa. Therefore, in the work, the letters are transformed until they raise two red roses. Each rose is on either side of the obstacle structure.

The presentation was made at La Pedrera in an event attended by important personalities from the institutional equestrian world.
