Boosting female talent: WONNOW Awards

Boosting female talent: WONNOW Awards

CaixaBank and Microsoft have presented the sixth edition of the WONNOW Awards, a recognition of the best STEM students from Spanish universities.

These awards aim to promote female talent in the university environment and raise awareness of the need to acquire digital skills to access the labor market.

In addition, the market is increasingly demanding this type of profile.

Who can participate in the WONNOW Awards?

The call is open to female students of STEM degrees from Spanish universities who have passed 180 credits.

The prize for the student with the best academic record, personal, professional and social trajectory is 10,000 euros.

In addition, this year the number of paid scholarships to work for six months at CaixaBank has been increased to a total of 15, and includes access to a Microsoft mentoring program.

The deadline for submitting applications is June 30 and those interested must fill out a form on the website

There they can easily attach their curriculum vitae, as well as the average grade of the first 180 credits passed. Their personal, professional and social merits, as well as their academic record, are also valued.

The WONNOW Awards

These awards have been in existence for six years recognizing female STEM talent and promoting diversity in academia.

According to data from the CYD Ranking, in Spanish universities, women account for 36% of students in STEM degrees, while in general terms they account for 56% of female students enrolled.

These data confirm the low presence of female students in technological careers in Spain, when compared with data from the European Union.

In fact, the number of women pursuing ICT-related degrees is less than 14%. This percentage places Spain 5.5 points below the average for the entire European Union.

The WONNOW Awards seek to change this trend and encourage more women to train in technological and scientific areas, so that they can access a labor market in which these profiles are increasingly in demand.

Throughout the existence of the WONNOW Awards (5 editions held so far), around 2,700 female students from different universities throughout Spain have participated.

For example, in the last edition, the number of women participants increased by 34.8% compared to the previous year.

This is a sign that these awards are highly recognized.

The CaixaBank and Microsoft WONNOW Awards is an initiative that seeks to promote female STEM talent in the university environment.

It also seeks to promote diversity in scientific and technological careers in Spain.

These awards recognize the work of women in these fields and encourage them to continue training in areas of the digital future.
