Barcelona's beaches run out of car parking spaces

The beaches of Barcelona have been closed to parking and car traffic.

The City Council closed the circulation on the inner roadway located between Port Olímpic and Mar Bella, at the height of the Sant Martí beach bars.

The parking lots that were located on the inner promenade have been cancelled in this sector.

Large concrete blocks now impede the passage and parking of vehicles in this area.

Municipal sources indicate that in the future the area will only be used for pedestrians, cyclists and athletes.

Although the ban on driving and parking in this area has been in effect since the spring of 2021, it has only now become a reality.

To find out where the closure begins, there is an information sign at the Vila Olímpica meteorological center.

Formerly, this same area was enabled as a blue zone for paid parking. It was enabled during the bathing season and the rest of the year, it could be used for free parking.

Zero parking on Barcelona’s beaches: an end to parties with cars

One of the main reasons for this closure has been to put an end to nuisance parties with cars parking there.

Neighbors of the Vila Olímpica, Jordi Giró had constantly expressed their annoyance because the area was becoming a zone of improvised discotheques.

According to the City Council, this was a cause of theft, crime, fights, drunkenness and other inconveniences among citizens.

The area will only continue to be available for loading and unloading and for people with disabilities.
