Barcelona wants to host the America's Cup Sailing 2024

The City Council, the Generalitat, Diputació and the Port of Barcelona, endorsed the presentation of Barcelona’s candidacy to host the America’s Cup Sailing 2024.

It also had the support of the Barcelona Global Association, the Barcelona & Partners agency and the private sector.

Barcelona & Partners expects this to be a major achievement in attracting investment. The firm says that the America’s Cup is one of the most internationally known sporting events and that it has television audiences in the millions.

This event is the most important sailing competition in the world.

The city’s main argument was its experience in organizing major sporting events such as the 1992 Olympic Games. T or major global events, such as the recent Mobile World Congress.

In addition, Barcelona is considered a first class tourist destination at the international level and, if the venue were to be awarded, it would make the new cruise terminals available to the competition.

The Spanish government also offered its support.

America’s Cup Sailing 2024

Team New Zealand, the defending champions and one of the big names in the competition, will decide in the coming weeks which team will host the 2024 Cup.

In this way, the Catalan capital is competing with Malaga and a city in the Arab Emirates, whose name was not disclosed.

The return to Valencia, which hosted the competition in 2007 and 2010, was also ruled out.

The chosen city will be announced in the coming weeks.
