Antonio Miró, Catalan fashion icon, died at 74 years of age

The renowned Sabadel-born designer died of a heart attack. When he was 20 years old, Antonio Miró opened his first store in Barcelona.

Over the years, in 1986 he managed to create his own company, offering Catalonia innovation and avant-garde creations until 1992.

The success of this fashion great was due to his proposal with his own designs, far from the conventional.

He also stood out nationally for his work and his presence in different events of high recognition.

One of them was the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games, where he was appointed “official costumer” of all the ceremonies of the event.

His creations were part of all the editions of Pasarela Cibeles, until its internationalization as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Antonio Miró, a benchmark of Catalan fashion

Over time and thanks to its success, it diversified its business into other lines. He specialized in professional and corporate clothing.

He came to design the institutional garments of Telefónica, the Catalan autonomous police, Port Aventura, among others.

But its leap into the international market was in 1990 together with Ermenegildo Zegnam, making the Miró brand enter the franchise system.

In 1988 he was awarded the “Cristóbal Balenciaga” prize for the best designer in Spain.

In 2000 he was awarded the FAD medal by the Industrial Design Association of the Promotion of Decorative Arts.

And in 2003 he received the Medal “Antoni Gaudí, Moda Barcelona” of the Pasarela Gaudí.

His brand has been recognized on international catwalks in New York, Milan, Paris, Tokyo and Florence.
