A container adapted as a cultural space won the Lluís Carulla Award 2022

The cultural project developed in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat for the residents of Florida, by the Contorno Urbano Foundation, won the Lluís Carulla 2022 Award.

The prize of 70,000 euros will be awarded to the social organization thanks to a space for social and cultural interaction created from a port container.

“Modul” is an ecological and cultural center developed by Contorno Urbano, in order to revitalize a degraded area and give rise to a new cultural and social space.

It has been very motivating to see how the neighbors have found, next to the train tracks, a new space for reunion and to share educational, leisure and cultural activities in a communitarian way.

Contorno Urbano is a foundation specialized in dynamizing spaces through art, particularly with murals. For this and other initiatives, it received the Carulla award for having developed the best transformational project.

The amount received will be used to complete the development of the project and to export it to other metropolitan cities such as Sant Vicenç dels Horts, among other cultural and business developments.

Likewise, the Llobregat Block Party Cultural Association received the award for best idea for its promotion of pair battles in Catalan with Periferia Gold Battle.

This award represented 30,000 euros for the Association, which will allow them to develop the prototype of the project and receive support from cultural and business mentors for a year.

The goal of this project is to form a small human and technical team to make it professional and implement it in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.

The Lluís Carulla Award 2022 edition received a total of 200 nominations of which seven reached the final phase.

The Carulla Foundation also awarded the Premi Francesc Candel 2022 to the Babel Punt de Trobada Foundation and the audiovisual artist Melisa Ramírez, for offering technical and artistic training through radio and music workshops aimed at immigrants.

This award was 15,000 euros, which will be used to continue promoting projects that foster the inclusion of migrants through culture and art.

A total of 26 projects were submitted for this award. These awards are the best way to recognize innovative ideas that integrate society and improve people’s quality of life.

They are the recognition of new spaces for coexistence, interaction, artistic and cultural development that integrate communities and seek to overcome harsh environments.

The Lluís Carulla Honor Prize is an award granted by the Lluís Carulla Foundation every year since 1977.

It is awarded to living persons or those entities that, thanks to their cultural, civic or cultural activity, help to strengthen community awareness at the national level and the sense of belonging to the culture in Catalan-speaking regions.
