Roman aqueduct found during construction works in Sabadell

While work was being carried out in a shopping center in Sabadell, a subway Roman aqueduct, some 150 meters long, was found.

It is the second most important find of this nature located in Catalonia.

The works that have been carried out in Sabadell have uncovered this recent historical finding of great relevance.

The localized structure shows the great importance that water had in this area of Vallès.

In fact, there are already records of different nuclei of the city inhabited during the Roman period that could have been supplied by this aqueduct.

Thanks to this system, water at the time would also have been able to reach the fields to irrigate them, as well as to reach homes and businesses at the time.

The areas where the commercial stores of Sant Pau de Riu-sec have been built are part of an environment of high archaeological expectation.

This area has been undergoing a complete transformation since the beginning of the century.

The objective is to transform this space so that companies from different sectors can develop their businesses. Some of them from the construction, technology and furniture sectors, among others.

According to the General Directorate of Heritage of the Generalitat and the developer Bricomart (the company in charge of the works in the area), a section of about 20 meters of the aqueduct will be preserved.

All with the purpose of creating a museum there and adapting it for visitors when the shopping center is built.

The project is expected to be completed during the first half of 2023.
