La Paloma Ballroom reopens doors to welcome 2023

After more than 15 years closed, the oldest and most mythical dance hall La Paloma in Barcelona, reopens its doors with a wonderful party: the reason to welcome 2023.

The ballroom originally opened its doors for the first time in 1903 and closed in 2007, under the promise that it would be temporary. And although it was temporary, 15 years have passed and only until 2022 did it reopen its doors.

The famous Barcelona ballroom will reopen with a welcome party in 2023. A celebration with live music by Carlitos Sarduy (live music), Discos Paradiso, DJ Sonido Tupinamba, Guille de Juan and Virginie.

But the best news of all is that the goal is to reopen its doors definitively in 2023.

The holiday starts at 0:30 a.m., half an hour after 2023 begins, and will last until 6 a.m. on January 1, 2023. The entrance fee per person is 38.20 euros. You can purchase them through the Dice portal.

Address Sala La Paloma: C/ del Tigre 27, Barcelona

The New Year’s Eve party, not only seeks to give the best welcome to 2023, but also to recover the festive atmosphere of the best times of the room.

It will be a good rehearsal to organize the final opening. A dance hall concept, not a discotheque.

The objective is to preserve the old concept. It is not a discotheque, it is a dance hall like in the old days.

In fact, there are not many of them left where you can still dance to the rhythm of rumba, boleros and chachachá played by a wonderful orchestra, in this case by the school of Tallers de Músics del Raval.

One advantage is that La Paloma’s facilities, since its closing, have been meticulously maintained down to the last corner.

Learn about the history of La Paloma

La Paloma was originally a foundry, established at the end of the 19th century. In 1903, three friends bought the place, renamed it after the symbol of the city and transformed it into one of the oldest active dance halls in Europe. Located in the Raval, La Paloma was frequented by locals and international tourists alike, and offered its customers classical Spanish swing, pasodoble and bolero music.

As anemblematic cultural center and microcosm of Barcelona, the ballroom hosted several famous figures throughout its illustrious history. Among them, the mayor of the city and unofficial mayor of the Raval, Jaume Pi i Suner, who bought the establishment in 1938. He ran the business during a turbulent time in Barcelona and encapsulated the spirit of the people of the city.

At the beginning of the 21st century, La Paloma went through a long period of closure. It wasn’t until the current mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, helped get approval for the venue’s reopening that the curtains of the ballroom reopened to the public. After 15 years, this place of continuing historical significance will continue to be a place of joyous celebration.

With capacity for 200 people, the venue is perfect for parties, wedding banquets and concerts, as well as corporate events and private celebrations.
