Barça TV to be shut down due to economic cuts

FC Barcelona has taken the decision to close Barça TV, the Club’s television channel. This decision is part of the economic cuts they are making to adapt to the requirements of La Liga’s Financial Fair Play.

The closure will not be effective until the end of the contract with Movistar Televisión, but it is expected that 120 workers of the audiovisual channel will be massively dismissed.

Telefónica, the company that manages the entity’s television station, will fully compensate all those affected.

The Club’s top management has already taken a stand and must reduce the 656 million euro salary cap by some 200 million euros in order to get through the summer without any problems.

As a result, Barça has detailed that it will not renew the contract with TBSC Barcelona Producciones SLU (Telefónica), the company that manages the club’s television station.

Barça TV will be closed

The decision to close Barça TV, which implies a massive layoff of employees, was preceded by the protest that these workers had been carrying out to obtain better working conditions.

But the negotiations with Telefónica, in charge of contract and salary management, did not come to a successful conclusion.

For the time being, no details have been released regarding the situation of these affected workers.

What they are looking for with this reduction of personnel is to achieve financial stability for the Club.

Interest in digital

Despite the closure of Barça TV, FC Barcelona will continue to offer audiovisual content through various channels, such as YouTube and TikTok.

However, the branch in charge of club-specific audiovisual programming will disappear and will be restructured to focus on digital presence.

This strategy seeks to leverage the power of social media and maintain the club’s brand awareness.

The closure of Barça TV is also part of the economic efforts of the club, which seeks to reduce expenses in several areas in order to face important signings, such as the return of Leo Messi next summer.

The decision has generated controversy and reactions on social networks, where many fans of the club express their discontent and sadness at the disappearance of Barça TV.

Others, however, understand the need to be able to face future sporting challenges.
