Barcelona prepares for the start of works on metro lines L9 and L10

The Barcelona metro will have significant improvements in connectivity and accessibility to the metro, with the start of works on lines L9 and L10.

For this reason, the Department of Territory of the Generalitat in an effort to improve the transport infrastructure in Barcelona, has tendered the works for the interior structure of the Guinardó/Hospital de Sant Pau and Maragall stations, with an investment of more than 15 million euros. These works mark an important step in the expansion of the city’s metro system.

The L9 station will be located near Hospital Sant Pau and Carrer de Sant Quintí. With an investment of 8.9 million euros, this station will measure 76 meters and will contain an interchange with L4, as well as elevators to ensure accessibility. The duration of the work is expected to be approximately 15 months.

On the other hand, the L10 station will be located in Plaza Maragall. This project has an investment of 7.4 million euros and will have a depth of 60 meters, as well as elevators to facilitate passenger mobility.

The estimated completion period for the works is 13 months. Both works are expected to commence during the spring of 2024.

Expansion of L9 and L10: a vital boost for Barcelona

In addition to the works on lines L9 and L10, the Barcelona metro plans to build forty new stations in the coming years. These expansions include extensions on several existing lines, which will allow for greater connectivity throughout the city. Some of the lines that will undergo major expansions include:

  • Line 1: From Fondo to Badalona and from Bellvitge to El Prat.
  • Line 2: From Sant Antoni to Parc Logístic.
  • Line 3: From Zona Universitaria to Sant Feliu and from Trinitat Nova to Trinitat Vella.
  • Line 4: From La Pau to La Sagrera.

These expansions are designed to improve accessibility and provide greater passenger comfort.

In addition, they will help reduce traffic congestion and encourage the use of public transport, which is essential to address mobility challenges in an ever-growing city.

Additional renovations on other subway lines

The year 2024 will be a period of renovations in the Barcelona metro. In addition to lines L9 and L10, L2 will undergo a major renovation that will affect service at some of its main stations between Paral-lel and Sagrada Familia.

This renovation project on line L2 aims to improve the safety of the service by rehabilitating the track fastening system and the rail where the convoys pass.

Barcelona is embarking on an exciting metro expansion project that will significantly improve accessibility and connectivity throughout the city.
