For two euros, every Tuesday, people over 65 can go to the cinema

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has recently announced a measure to promote culture among people over 65 years of age in Spain.

Starting next Tuesday, the Council of Ministers will approve a plan that will allow people over 65 to go to the movies on Tuesdays for two euros.

This initiative is part of a program to promote culture, which seeks to make culture a state policy.

During a public event in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), Sánchez highlighted the importance of culture during the coronavirus pandemic and warned of the adverse effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

According to him, it is important to reflect on this and go out of our homes to recover those spaces that we had to give up to protect ourselves from the virus.

Every Tuesday, seniors over 65 can go to the movies for only 2 euros.

In order to implement this measure, the Government has agreed with the movie exhibition sector to establish another day of reduced price movies for senior citizens.

This measure will involve an investment of 10 million euros and will be developed in collaboration with the main associations of the sector, which represent more than 90% of the theaters.

The measure will benefit a large number of senior citizens, who will be able to enjoy culture at affordable prices.

Another of the pioneering measures implemented in 1985 for the elderly, such as the Imserso trips, was also recalled.

Promoting culture in the aftermath of the pandemic

The measure announced by the President of the Government seeks to promote culture among people over 65 years of age in Spain.

Access to culture and leisure is a fundamental right that is often limited by economic factors.

Therefore, this measure is especially important for the elderly, who in many cases have a reduced pension and difficulties in accessing cultural activities that allow them to enjoy their free time.

In addition, this initiative is also a way to support the audiovisual sector, which has suffered greatly during the pandemic due to the reduction of capacity and social distancing measures.

Collaboration with the main associations of the exhibition sector will ensure the success of this measure and its continuity over time.

This government measure is an important step towards the democratization of access to culture and leisure.

It is hoped that this initiative will be a great success among the elderly and that it will serve as an example for other initiatives that promote access to culture and leisure in the country, not only for this population, but also for other sectors.

Let’s go back to the movie theaters and enjoy good screenings.
